In this initial workshop, we focus on streamlined, hierarchical content classification
– the first step to improving information search, navigation and delivery. This full-day
workshop will cover:
- Analyzing problems with existing information displays, such as randomly organized
electronic file directories or “hyperlink-happy” Web pages
- Identifying and prioritizing user requirements for an improved structure, where consistent
terms can support all IT systems and displays
- Combining a top-down and bottom-up approach to defining and organizing useful topics
- Selecting appropriate “top-down” categories, or facets, that answer key questions
– who we are, what we do, how we do it, where we do it, for whom and with whom we
do it, etc. Exploring mind-mapping as a valuable facet-expansion technique.
- Working with domain specialists in a “bottom up” exercise to cluster topics for the
lower levels of the taxonomy. Discussing the useful process of card-sorting.
- Using software tools to identify associated topics and to maintain the taxonomy
- Developing user interfaces to exploit the content classification structure
Workshop 1 – structuring content with faceted taxonomies
As an introduction to InfoArk’s customized solutions, we offer several fixed-price
services, from health checks of your content classification scheme to hands-on workshops
for your staff. The content classification health check costs £4,500; the sequential
workshops £750 for each one-day session.
