InfoArk began with an information audit, identifying internal and external sources of metadata and suggesting a high-level information architecture. We then worked with subject specialists to fill this hierarchy with preferred terms, adding synonyms, related topics and contextual keywords for a complete XML schema.
We helped with vendor selection for an enterprise search solution, by defining requirements and running a Proof of Concept.
We are now integrating the information architecture and selected search solution into a Sharepoint portal. This "information cabinet" unifies access to separate document repositories, supports collaboration, and features taxonomy-led navigation, customized search queries, user alerts and links to subject specialists.
To customize the search and alerting functions, we created semantic tools for data analysts to discover incidents for further investigation. For instance, they can now enter a wide-ranging search for "Southwest" AND "Warning" and be alerted to a fatality at a Plymouth hospital or management problems at a Bristol clinic.

Government projects
InfoArk works regularly for central government agencies as well as for local government bodies.
Our work for the UK national association of local authorities was incorporated into a new UK metadata standard, the Integrated Public Sector Vocabulary.
We support this standard in our projects, while also customizing a list of preferred terms that reflects the needs of each client.
